"Special guest, highly lauded jazz singer, Hilary Kole, entertains us with three numbers: an easy swing version of “I Remember You,” featuring a very cool scat conversation with Jonathan Kantor’s clarinet, her new favorite song “While We’re Young,” so joyful one wants to roll down a hill or twirl, and a completely original interpretation of Joni Mitchell’s “River” on which she accompanies herself at the piano. Her “River” is perhaps the only take I’ve heard strong enough to stand up to Mitchell’s original while still maintaining intent. Kole manages to be both earthy and classy. She gracefully controls music like a good cowboy roper does his lasso.
